Nusantara Tunnel proposed herein consists of two interconnected underground tunnels. Each underground tunnel is 33 km long and rest in stable underground media about 40 meters below the seabed. The average diameter of each tunnel is 7.0 meters and has passing room for an electric car train carrying passengers and cargo, and any kind of vehicles such as buses, trucks, containers and passenger cars. The train will have several stages of operation with a maximum capacity of about 15,500 passenger car units per day or equivalent to 5 million passenger car units per annum or 30 million people per annum.
The first phase of its construction will cost US$ 1.5- 2 billion and take about US$20 toll fee to cross one way which will take about an hour. The second phase should be constructed after first considering the traffic volumes of the first tunnel.
